Hi there! I’m Marcus Hernandez-Torrez, the founder of Hoop There It Is. As a proud San Diego native, I started this business in late 2024 with one goal in mind: to offer our community an interactive and personalized rental experience that brings people together and makes any event unforgettable.
Basketball has always been a huge passion of mine, and I realized—why not turn that passion into a reality? So, that’s exactly what I did.

How did I get started?
It all began back in 2022. Anyone who knows me would describe me as someone with an overactive mind (filled with endless ideas!). After brainstorming thousands of concepts, I landed on one that felt special—a mobile basketball hoop.
At the time, I didn’t have a clue how to make it happen, and I certainly didn’t have a truck to pull it off. My first idea was simple: one truck, one hoop, one basketball. I’d drive around San Diego, offering people the chance to shoot a few hoops for a fee.
Fast forward two years, and the idea grew into something much bigger. I kept adding new elements, refining the concept, and never looked back. For over 17 years, I’d sat on countless business ideas without ever taking action. But one day, I decided it was time to stop dreaming and start doing. “Just do it,” as Nike says.
So, I did.
It’s been a journey filled with long days, even longer nights, and plenty of moments when I wasn’t quite sure what I was doing. But I wouldn’t change a thing. Today, I’m incredibly proud to offer an interactive, fun, and professional mobile basketball hoop rental service that enhances any party or event.
I’ve built this business from the ground up—creating a user-friendly website with an easy online booking system, ensuring every detail is professionally managed, and making sure we’re fully licensed, insured, and park-approved.
Most of all, I’m thrilled to help families and friends create beautiful, unforgettable memories through the love of basketball.
